Head Lice Treatment Controls Infestations
Everyone should know about head lice treatment even though it is not discussed very often. The three kinds of lice live on different parts of the human body. Pubic lice live in the pubic region while body and head lice live on the head. Head lice is the most often contracted of the three.
Although people are often embarrassed by having a lice infestation on the scalp, this has nothing to do with being dirty or lacking in personal hygiene. These tiny insects are very mobile and can easily jump from one person to another just by sitting very close together, or sharing a brush, comb, scarf or hat.
Lice cannot survive without human beings to feed on - isolated from humans, they will die in a matter of weeks. This is effective when the treating items that cannot be washed in very hot water, dry cleaned, or sprayed with lice killer. Such items can be sealed in plastic bags long enough for the nits and live lice to starve.
The size of the little critters is so small that they are hard to notice. It is generally when a note comes from the school that you become cautious and plan to undertake a haircare treatment. If you cannot see them then you can look for nits on the base for hair shafts. Nits are nothing but the eggs of the lice. They are tightly bound to the hair. The complete medical treatment is considered to be over only when you get rid of each and every lice and nit.
After treatment, check the scalp carefully every few days for lice. If you find remaining lice or nits, remove them with a fine toothed comb. Over the counter lice sprays usually kill them all, but sometimes you will need a stronger product that requires a prescription. See your doctor if this is the case. In addition, be sure to treat items you come into contact with, including furniture, clothing, bedding, carpets, and stuffed toys.
Insecticide head lice treatment products can be replaced with nontoxic herbal ones. These are generally available online or at health food stores. Messy, multi-use home remedies exist as well as store bought ones and though they are not as recommended, mayonnaise, petroleum jelly or oil can be used to kill lice. The head of the infected person is covered in a shower cap overnight and then the nits are combed out.
There are 3 types of lice: pubic lice, body lice, and hair lice. Lice aren’t caused by poor hygiene. They transfer from person to person. Lice need human hosts to live. To eliminate them, you need to clean household items by spraying, washing, or sealing them in plastic bags. Lice are tiny and hard to find. Nits are found “glued” to hair shafts. They must all be removed to completely eradicate the infestation. After treatment, recheck periodically. Over-the-counter head lice treatment may not work. Stronger prescription medications are available. Health store products and home remedies are often effective. Home treatments are messy and may require more than one treatment.
